We are delighted to be welcoming back Veronica Roberts to the Old Laundry to play Beatrix Potter in our new production ‘Meeting Bea’. Old Laundry regulars will have enjoyed watching Veronica in last year’s Sherlock’s Last Case and Housewife, 49. Now the stage has been dismantled from the summer hit ‘Where is Peter Rabbit?’ and we are busy creating the new Lakeland set for scenes at Hill Top, Tower Bank Arms and Troutbeck.
The Production
‘Meeting Bea’ is set to be a fascinating and intriguing tale of Beatrix Potter in her later life as a successful Lake District farmer when she suddenly finds her life turned upside down by the arrival of a girl from Lancashire (played by Lucy Telleck) and a persistent American publisher (played by John Moraitis) who just won’t take no for an answer. The action takes place in the Lake District in 1927 at Castle Cottage, Hill Top, The Tower Bank Arms,Hawkshead Village Hall, Troutbeck and Moss Eccles Tarn and then later in Lancashire in 1945.
The Play was first produced on BBC Radio 4 in April 1993 and has been adapted for stage by Veronica Roberts and Peter James who is also directing. We hope you will join us for this special production to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter.
Whilst the set is being built here in the Lake District, the cast have been rehearsing in London ready to transfer to the Lakes as soon as the stage is ready.
Here are some photos from rehearsals last week featuring all of the cast: Veronica Roberts, Patrick Bridgman, Lucy Telleck, John Moraitis, Sandra Voe and Andrew Whitehead.
